I went to Indiana Comic Con 2019 last weekend with Chris Scott as a table partner and it was great! The initial drive and check-in at my hotel room went easier than I expected and the venue was large but not crowded!
Early set-up there was alright. The tables we shared were smaller than the original set up we had at Revolution, so we prayed nothing would fall off the corners. Chris sadly forgot his banner and my banner was obscured by my wire grates and signs.
The first day was slower as I think most people were just browsing the convention, but things picked up on the second day afterward. I did manage to catch some cosplayers of my personal favorite games and shows.
Thanks to all of these lovely people, I managed to break even on my table coast and spread the word about my artwork and I thank them for it. It’s fun to chack about my process and push a little encouragement to the few who want to learn how to make comics themselves.
I managed to get one commission of Kanoh Agito from Kengen Ashura which convinced me to give that anime a look. When business was slow, I drew a few things for myself, like Dave Thomas the owner of Wendy’s, and Ganondorf in a Pikachu Kirugumi based on a dumb inside joke about Super Smash Bros. And I doodled up a red panda character for a future comic idea I’m still plugging away at.
Another highlight was meeting people like Ron Wilson, an artist who worked on a bunch of Marvel comics like the Thing, Black Goliath, Luke Cage, and The Wolfpack and Sheryl Mitchell of Scaly Tailz, a reptile rescue, education, and adoption center.
If you missed me at Indiana Comic Con or want to buy some of my comics, prints and items, go to my Etsy Store! There you can check out my new items such as stickers of a unique PigBall and my ever popular Hipster Medusa! You can also buy a print copy of Chris’s collected trade of his webcomic RayFox on his store too!
My next conventions are Southside Comic Book Show on September 14 the Galaxy Comic Book and Fantasy Art Expo on September 2. I’m actually taking a bit of a break before then to recoup myself and rearrange my files and papers.
